Former Players Watch Playoff Victory
July 13, 2010
Columbus, OH -- The 2010 Columbus Comets football team defeated the visiting Philadelphia Liberty Belles by a score of 36-7 on Saturday, July 10. In this second round Women's Football Alliance (WFA) playoff game the largest crowd for the season came along for the victory ride.
"The support of the Columbus community tonight was very much appreciated", said Head Coach Hank Patterson. "The crowd was instrumental in the victory and the players got energy from them."
The stands were full of past Comet and Columbus Flames (the precursor team to the Comets) players who came to watch the game and support the 2010 team. Some of the former players noted in attendance were: Maribeth Bentler, Bernice Wood, Jennifer Hutchinson, Kimberly Hughes, Lindsey Eckles, Denese Martin, Sally Williams.
?We can't thank them enough for coming to today's game and supporting us. We try to play hard each down for our fans in Columbus and certainly recognize each Comet/Flame alumnae contributions to where we are this season. These players established a high bar for the Comets to strive towards, Coach Patterson stated. "Some of them looked like they were fit and ready to put on gear and get back into the game tonight, he noted."
The Comets take on the Saint Louis Slam in the WFA Semi-Final Round Game on Saturday, July 17. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. The winner of the game will advance to the WFA National Championship in Las Vegas on Saturday, July 31. Both teams enter the game undefeated in 2010.
