Comets Reach Playoff Round Two

Columbus, OH -- The Columbus Comets intensity matched the heat of the sweltering game day temperature as they defeated the Baltimore Burn in round one of the 2010 Women's Football Alliance (WFA). The game was played on Saturday, June 26 with a 2:00 p.m. kick-off and in the 90 degree temperature saw the Comets win by a margin of 67-8.
The victory moves the Comets to the WFA quarterfinal playoff round on Saturday, July 10. The game will be played at the Comets home field Huffaker Sports Complex, Grove City, Ohio. With the kick-off set for 2:00 p.m. the Comets will take on the Philadelphia Liberty Belles. The Liberty Belles advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating the Michigan Mayhem on June 26 by a score of 35-33. The Liberty Belles advance with an 8-0 record. The playoff game will be the first meeting between these two WFA teams. Tickets for the playoff game will be available at the game site.
Head Coach Hank Patterson stated "The Burn came ready to play. Luckily we were able to make game adjustments and score early." He continued by adding, "Our team experience was an asset today. Our play still needs to be sharpened and as the coaches talked about in the post game we have work to due in all three phases of the game. Offense, defense and special teams can make additional changes to become stronger before the Liberty Belle game."
Quarterback Crystal Davis noted the upcoming game against the Liberty Belles "will be a tough game, they are a veteran team with a strong defense. Our fans have been great and I look forward to having another large crowd for our next game."
The Comets practice on upcoming Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at the Huffaker Sports Complex.
With this latest win the Comets are on an nine game winning streak of both regular and post season play. With this latest game Coach Patterson has a WFA record of 53-17.
