2010 Student Intership Openings

April 12, 2010

Columbus, OH -- The Columbus Comets Women's Professional Football team has several remaining student internships and/or practicum experiences for the 2010 season. The team is part of the Women's Football Alliance. In 2009, the team posted an 8-0 regular season record and were the Mid-Atlantic Division Champions. The Comet football season begins in late April and concludes in July.

All internships and practicums are non-paid but the team will work with interns to arrange for college credit. Past internship/practicums have been as quality control coaches, athletic training, game day press box coach, game management, news and media writing and publications, promotions, season ticket sales and sales. "Interns receive a valuable learning experience when they work for the Comets," said team owner Hank Patterson. He continued by stating, "The feedback we have received has been positive and we are pleased to join with colleges and students for professional experience. Ideas generated by the intern/practicum staff will be invaluable to the organization and we are looking for proactive and progressive self-starters."

The Comets will play a regular season of eight games (four home and four away) followed by the post-season schedule. Interns/practicum students are expected to be available for the entire season. Practice attendance is necessary (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings) and attendance at both home and away games are also an expectation.

Potential interns/practicum students and/or college coordinators should review the attached game schedule and forward their resume, letter of application indicating the area of interest to columbuscometsnews@yahoo.com (place the words Summer Intern 2010 in the subject line). "With such few positions remaining, I would encourage potential applicants to forward their materials immediately. The athletic internship/practicum experience liaison for the Comets is a member of the Ohio Dominican University Sports Management faculty as an adjunct professor and a Columbus Comets assistant coach. Dr. Ferguson has significant experience in sports management and internship/practicum experiences . Her volunteering to help the team and students in internship or practicum opportunities is greatly appreciated", Patterson concluded.
