Columbus Comets Under New Ownership

Columbus, OH -- Hank Patterson of Columbus, OH and Lori Davis of Dallas, TX have completed initial negotiations for transferring controlling interest in the Columbus Comets women?s football team from Davis, an original owner of the 7 year old franchise.
Patterson will serve as the head coach, managing partner and CEO of the Columbus Comets.
"Together, Ms. Davis and I have worked since the end of the 2009 season to attain this agreement for the Comets players and the City of Columbus," Patterson said in a statement. "It has been a deal which places the Comets in a stronger business position for the future and insures that central Ohio has a women's football franchise in the city."
"Every member of the Comets from our staff to the players are going to benefit from this sale. We continue to have a great foundation of talent that has been assembled in recent years and this talent combined with our passionate commitment to achieve excellence in every facet of the organization's operation should lead to continued success for our team."
Patterson becomes the third owner in the team's history. The Comets began in 2004 after Davis and Shirley Miller purchased the Columbus Flames. Davis took on single ownership in recent years, guiding the team through league and venue changes as the Comets established themselves as one of the most successful women's football teams in women's football history.
The Comets belong to the Women's Football Alliance, and are the defending National Conference Mid-Atlantic Division Champions following a 2009 undefeated regular season record of 8-0. The team has started preseason practice in preparation for the 2010 season, which begins April 17 in Pittsburgh, PA versus the Pittsburgh Force. Last season the Comets defeated the Force in both contests.
