Catherine Masters Stepping Down as CEO of the National Women's Football Association
October 29, 2008
Well known sports entrepreneur, Catherine Masters, who founded the National Women's Football Association in 2000, has announced her retirement from women's football.
Masters who has guided the NWFA through 8 successful seasons made the announcement at the league's annual owner's meeting. "I am stepping down for several reasons, the biggest being the fact that I will be 64 next month and I need some time to chase a few more dreams. I am extremely proud of what I've accomplished for the sport of women's football and know that the NWFA will continue to grow and prosper. Helping female athletes chase their dreams of playing football will always mean something special to me," she states
The NWFA will now be owned and operated by all of the owners. This marks a big change in how the league has been run in the past.
"I have signed a letter of intent with the owners and we should have the deal completed within the next week. I think it's time the owners of the NWFA had a say in how the league was run and I believe that this change is going to only make the NWFA stronger and more successful. I will certainly miss running the league but I know in my heart that this is what should happen. I cannot tell you how much fun and joy I have had helping to make this sport grow," she adds.
